The Orthopedic Pad
Senior dogs, large or giant breeds, post-surgery recovery, hip-dysplasia management.
Three-layer construction for dogs who need real joint support — older dogs, large breeds, post-surgery recovery, anything where the dog spends serious time lying down. A 1.0" comfort cap (4.0 lb, ILD 14) conforms at the joints, a 1.5" transition layer (4.2 lb, ILD 24) spreads the load, and a 2.5" support core (4.2 lb, ILD 36) carries the dog without bottoming out.

What it's made of
Three-layer engineered stack, 5.0" total loft: 1.0" comfort cap (4.0 lb/ft³, ILD 14) for pressure relief, 1.5" transition layer (4.2 lb/ft³, ILD 24) to spread load, and a 2.5" support core (4.2 lb/ft³, ILD 36) that carries the dog without bottoming out. Removable, machine-washable poly-knit cover with a water-resistant liner. CertiPUR-US certified foam. 10-year no-sag warranty.
What it's good for
- Three-layer stack — comfort cap for pressure relief, transition to spread load, 36-ILD core for structure
- 4.2 lb density support core holds up under 100+ lb dogs over years, not months
- 10-year no-sag warranty (≥0.75" permanent indentation) — same length as the category leader, at a lower price
- Removable washable cover with water-resistant liner
- Density + ILD numbers published on every size (so you can compare against any other brand's specs)
What it isn't
- More expensive than the standard Crate Pad
- Heavier — XL and XXL are awkward for one person to flip
- Memory foam runs warm; not ideal in non-AC homes during summer
Care
Unzip cover, wash cold on gentle, mild detergent. Air-dry. Foam stays sealed — spot-clean only. Rotate the pad end-to-end every few months to even out compression.
FAQ
How is this different from The Crate Pad?
Three layers vs one, and a 4.2 lb-density support core vs 2.5 lb foam. The Orthopedic stacks a 1.0" comfort cap (ILD 14) and a 1.5" transition layer (ILD 24) over a 2.5" support core (ILD 36), so weight spreads across joints instead of sinking into one slab. The Crate Pad is for everyday wear; the Orthopedic is for dogs whose comfort actually depends on the pad.
Does the memory-foam topper run hot?
All memory foam runs warmer than non-memory foam. If your dog overheats easily or you live without AC, the standard Crate Pad sleeps cooler.
How does this compare to Big Barker or Casper Pet?
Same 10-year no-sag warranty as Big Barker, at a lower price for every comparable size — and we publish the numbers they don't. Big Barker doesn't publish ILD; Casper Pet publishes neither density nor ILD. Our full layer-by-layer spec (density + ILD per layer) is on every size, so you can compare directly against any brand's sheet.
What does the 10-year warranty cover?
If the foam develops a permanent indentation of 0.75" or more within 10 years of delivery, we replace the pad. Covers the foam stack under normal single-dog use; the washable cover is a wear item and isn't included. On top of that, every pad starts with a 90-night trial — full refund, we cover return freight.
