The Orthopedic Pad
Senior dogs, large or giant breeds, post-surgery recovery, hip-dysplasia management.
Two-layer construction for dogs who need real joint support — older dogs, large breeds, post-surgery recovery, anything where the dog spends serious time lying down. The 4 lb-density base resists compression; the memory-foam topper conforms to body shape so weight distributes evenly across joints.

What it's made of
4 lb-density polyurethane base (density 4.0 lb/ft³, ILD 30) with a 1.5" memory-foam topper (density 4.0 lb/ft³, ILD 12). Removable, machine-washable cotton-linen cover with a non-slip backing. CertiPUR-US certified foam.
What it's good for
- Two-layer construction — base for support, top for conformity
- 4 lb density base holds up under 100+ lb dogs over years, not months
- Removable cover with non-slip backing
- Density + ILD numbers published on every size (so you can compare against any other brand's specs)
What it isn't
- More expensive than the standard Crate Pad
- Heavier — XL and XXL are awkward for one person to flip
- Memory foam runs warm; not ideal in non-AC homes during summer
Care
Unzip cover, wash cold on gentle, mild detergent. Air-dry. Foam stays sealed — spot-clean only. Rotate the pad end-to-end every few months to even out compression.
FAQ
How is this different from The Crate Pad?
Two layers vs one, and 4 lb-density base vs 2.5 lb. The orthopedic version holds support longer under heavy dogs and adds a memory-foam top layer that distributes weight across joints. The Crate Pad is for everyday wear; the Orthopedic is for dogs whose comfort actually depends on the pad.
Does the memory-foam topper run hot?
All memory foam runs warmer than non-memory foam. If your dog overheats easily or you live without AC, the standard Crate Pad sleeps cooler.
How does this compare to Big Barker or Casper Pet?
Big Barker uses a similar two-layer construction and 4 lb base density but doesn't publish ILD numbers. Casper Pet doesn't publish density or ILD. We publish both so you can compare directly.
