Care & sizing

Sizing

The right pad size depends on two measurements: your dog's sleep weight, and the dimensions of the crate, bed frame, or floor area you want to cover.

Dog weight to pad size

Pad thickness scales with body weight. Heavier dogs compress foam faster, so they need a thicker pad to keep support over the full life of the bed.

Dog weight Pad size Thickness Dimensions
Up to 25 lb Small 3 in 24 × 18 in
25–50 lb Medium 4 in 30 × 20 in
50–80 lb Large 5 in 36 × 24 in
80–110 lb XL 6 in 42 × 28 in
110+ lb XXL 6–7 in 48 × 32 in

Measuring for a crate fit

Measure the interior dimensions of the crate floor with a tape measure. Subtract ½ inch from both length and width — this gives the pad room to settle without bunching against the crate walls.

Wire crates often have curved corners. Measure from corner to corner of the actual floor, not the outer frame. If you're not sure, a photo with a tape measure helps — email hello@{{BRAND_NAME}}.com with the brand and model of your crate and we'll spec it for you.

Custom sizes

If standard sizes don't fit, we cut custom. Common requests: pads sized for vehicle cargo areas, dog-house floors, raised cot frames, couch cushion replacements. Pricing scales by area; lead time matches stock sizes. All custom-spec pads are final sale, with a defect carve-out — see Returns.

Care

Pads ship with a removable, machine-washable cover and a sealed foam core. The cover gets washed; the foam stays dry and sealed.

Washing the cover

  1. Unzip the cover and remove the foam core.
  2. Wash cover on cold, gentle cycle with mild detergent. No bleach.
  3. Air-dry or tumble low. High heat shrinks the cover and shortens its life.
  4. Re-zip the cover around the foam once it's fully dry.

Cleaning the foam core

Don't submerge the foam. Once water gets into the cells, it takes weeks to dry out and can grow mildew in the meantime. For spot cleaning, dab with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap, then stand the pad on edge overnight to air-dry before re-covering.

Lifespan and replacement

Foam compresses over time. A well-cared-for pad lasts 3–5 years for medium-weight dogs. Heavy dogs (80+ lb) compress foam faster — expect 2–3 years before noticeable loss of loft. The cover usually outlasts the foam, so we sell replacement cores at workshop cost once the cover is still good but the foam isn't.

Signs it's time to replace: the pad no longer rebounds when you press and release the center, your dog circles more before settling, or you can feel the floor through the pad when you press on it with both hands.
